Frequently Asked Questions
Is TradeRiskMath free to use?
Yes. Every calculator — the multi-asset position sizer, the expectancy tool, and the personal-finance calculators — is free and runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no login, and no data sent to a server for the public calculators.
Which asset classes does the position sizer support?
The Multi-Asset Risk Calculator sizes positions for Options, Stocks, Futures, and Forex from the same risk-first inputs: account equity, risk tolerance %, entry price, stop loss price, and target price. Each asset class applies its own contract multiplier, lot size, and leverage guardrail so the math stays accurate to that market.
What is the difference between the Multi-Asset Calculator and the Advanced Options Calculator?
The Multi-Asset Calculator gives you instant position sizing and R:R across all four asset classes. The Advanced Options Calculator goes deeper on options specifically — modeling six strategies with strikes, premiums, payoff diagrams, and a seven-scenario P&L table. Use the multi-asset tool for fast sizing across markets; open the Advanced Options Tools for full payoff analysis on a specific option strategy.
What is the Expectancy Calculator for?
The Expectancy Calculator evaluates the mathematical edge of a trading system from its win rate, average win, and average loss. It reports per-trade expectancy, profit factor, average R:R, and the break-even win rate your system must exceed to be profitable — so you know whether your strategy makes money over a large enough sample.
Does the calculator store my trades or account balance?
No. The only history kept is a short, browser-only recent-calculations list stored in your device’s localStorage. It never leaves your browser and can be cleared at any time.
Does TradeRiskMath provide financial advice or trade recommendations?
No. TradeRiskMath is an educational risk-modeling tool. It performs math on the values you enter; it does not recommend, endorse, or guarantee any trade, strategy, or security. Trading involves risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. See our full Disclaimer.
Why is there no Estimated Win Rate or Expected Value in the Advanced Calculator?
A real expected-value calculation requires a defensible probability estimate for the underlying reaching a target, which depends on assumptions the tool cannot validate. Showing a fabricated probability would be misleading, so the Advanced Calculator intentionally reports only the deterministic geometry of a trade — break-even, max loss, max profit, R:R, and P&L scenarios — not a speculative EV. The separate Expectancy Calculator evaluates system edge from your own historical win rate and average win/loss instead.

What the calculators do
- Compute position size from account equity × risk % ÷ per-unit risk across four asset classes.
- Project break-even, max loss, max profit, and R:R from the values you enter.
- Render payoff diagrams and seven-scenario P&L tables at expiration (options).
- Evaluate system expectancy, profit factor, and break-even win rate from your own stats.
What the calculators do not do
- They do not predict whether a trade will be profitable or estimate win probability.
- They do not account for commissions, fees, slippage, or bid-ask spread.
- They do not provide quotes, execute orders, or connect to a brokerage.
- They intentionally exclude Estimated Win Rate and Expected Value (EV) from the Advanced Calculator.
TradeRiskMath is an educational risk-modeling tool, not financial advice. Trading involves risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. See our full Disclaimer and Terms.
